Legend

Moʻolelo Moʻolelo are stories, myths, legends, and part of the cultural fabric of Hawaiʻi.

The word moʻolelo itself is a combination of the word moʻo, meaning a series or succession, and ʻōlelo, meaning words.

Originally an oral tradition, moʻolelo can be entertaining, but also relay important lessons about the values, norms, and traditions of the Hawaiian people.

The Legend

This exhibition is an opportunity to learn about the holistic healing beliefs and practices of Hawaiians, who view the body, mind, and spirit as one; the body cannot be made well without healing the spirit. Examples of lāʻau lapaʻau (herbal medicines) and rarely seen 19th century lomilomi (massage) implements will be on display.
