SUMMARY:Kapaemahu Speaker Series | Māhū Madness on the Great Lawn of the Bishop Museum
DESCRIPTION:The Bishop Museum is proud to host a five-part speaker series that harnesses community discourse around their most recent exhibition, The Healer of Stones of Kapaemahu.  This exhibition enhances the moʻolelo of four extraordinary beings of dual male and female spirits who brought their healing powers from Tahiti to the Hawaiian islands.\nJoin the Bishop Museum After Hours Pau Hana program on Friday, October 14, 2022 from 6PM – 8PM to listen and interact with some of Hawaiʻi’s most iconic performers.  The panel will include legendary performers Brandy Lee and Shelrae, who will talk about the joys, trials, and tribulations of performing at the Glade nightclub during a period of intense discrimination in Hawaiʻi; Fatima Reynolds, who is featured in the exhibition and is winner of the longest-lasting gender diverse pageant in Tonga; and contemporary performer and community advocate Sami Akuna, aka Coco Chandelier.  Doors open at 5:30, pre-show music with Kit Ebersbach and Starr Kalāhiki.\n**The event will be hosted both in-person and streamed on the Bishop Museum’s Youtube live.  For more information, click here ( https://www.bishopmuseum.org/calendar/from-entertainment-to-visibility-and-respect-an-evening-with-legends-of-the-glade-era-and-contemporary-counterparts/?blm_aid=27184 ).\n
